Happy 90th Birthday Eva Geiger!

by: Steve Fussell

Thu Oct 08, 2009 at 15:07:41 PM EST

Eva GeigerEva Geiger recently celebrated her 90th birthday at Fruitland Park Cafe with a big cake, her daughter Joan and three customers.

That's because the giggling Geiger girls, who live in Lake Griffin Isles, stuck to their morning routine despite the historic day: they joined us for breakfast at 7:20 a.m. and beat the morning breakfast club crowd.

Eva, a former hospital secretary from Akron, Ohio, is spry, talkative, and sharp as a tack. She had to be: she raised 10 children and she still has enough energy to visit us for breakfast every morning.

Joan Geiger (that's her on the right) is also retired---a former GE machinist and later office worker. Joan is quick to smile, and she likes to laugh. There's a rumor that a local Romeo who shall remain nameless visits Fruitland Park Cafe most mornings so he can ogle at Joan from afar.

Joan lives with Eva at Lake Griffin Isles.

Happy birthday, girls!

Fruitland Park Cafe
...celebrates honest, hard-working families every day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., earlier if it's not busy, later if we have customers. We serve a great cup of coffee for 50 cents (you gotta pour it yourself, so "serve" is ambiguous), breakfast for $3, lunch for $5, and it's all cooked to your order. But the best thing about our place is our customers.
